Welcome to My Kombuis: South African Home Cooking

My Kombuis is a South African home-cooking library built for people who want dependable food without unnecessary complication. We publish recipes with metric measurements, realistic preparation times, local ingredients and practical explanations of what can go wrong.

What you will find here

Our collection covers traditional favourites such as bobotie, potjiekos, milk tart, vetkoek and roosterkoek, alongside affordable weeknight meals and air-fryer recipes. Each English recipe is a complete article with ingredients, numbered steps, serving ideas, storage guidance and estimated costs in rand.

Our recipe approach

We write for real family kitchens. Temperatures are given in Celsius, quantities use South African metric measurements and alternatives are suggested when an ingredient is expensive or difficult to find. Cooking times are treated as a guide because ovens, air fryers and ingredient sizes differ.

Food safety matters too. Our recipes explain when leftovers should be chilled, how long they keep and when careful temperature control is important. We also include texture cues—such as how a sauce should look or how bread should sound when tapped—because those details are often more useful than a timer alone.
